Hello

Hey Mishpocha! I'm Melissa, and I'm so excited to kibbitz with you! As a Jewish woman in her 50s, I am the proud mother of two amazing daughters and I'm married to a wonderful mensch of a man. I'm also an author of multiple novels that focus on the Jewish faith and themes of family. I love to share my stories, whether through the written word or the art of kibbitzing!

My Story

I am an author, blogger, and now, podcaster from Cincinnati, Ohio. I studied creative writing and journalism at the University of Cincinnati, receiving a BA in English literature and a minor in Judaic studies. My articles have appeared on Kveller.com, LiteraryMama.com, Booksbywomen.org, and my short stories have been published in the Jewish Literary Journal. I contributed to the Today Show's parenting blog, where my piece "The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting occurred on the day of my daughter's Bat Mitzvah" was featured on The Today Show's site. My novella Through a Mirror Clear was published as a serial installment on TheSame.blog, an online literary journal written for women by women (now available in its entirety on Amazon.com). My award-winning novel What She Lost is inspired by my grandmother’s life as a Holocaust survivor. It received the International Readers' Favorite silver medal in the coming-of-age category and is currently being shopped by Hollywood studios as a limited series. My latest novel, Eight Wishes, is a holiday romance that unfolds over the eight nights of Hanukkah. While I love trying my hand at different genres, writing about my family and my personal experiences is what I enjoy most. You can learn more about my work on my website or Amazon page.

Before joining the Jewfolk team, I worked as Assistant Editor for The American Israelite, the oldest Jewish newspaper in the United States.   I am never without a cup of coffee in hand or my little dog Kugel in my lap! When not at the computer, I cherish time spent playing games, binge-watching shows, traveling, and sitting around the dining room table with my family. They are my everything!
